People from St. George and Ogden are calling for the release of non-violent inmates amid the pandemic. Demonstrators from both cities gathered last Friday night outside of county prosecutor offices saying a jail sentence should not equal a death sentence. Since June, the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane counted over one-hundred cases of COVID-19 and officials recently said cases have come down, but the southwest Utah health department attributed half of Tuesday's 74 cases to the facility. Organizers are planning for another demonstration to be held this Saturday at the Ogden Police Department.
