Vallow-Daybell: Life In Prison; KSUB Regional Summary

The so-called "Doomsday Cult Mom" will spend life behind bars for the murder of her two youngest children. Earlier this year, Lori Vallow Daybell was found guilty of murdering her 17-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son, and conspiring to kill her husband's ex-wife.

The Idaho judge today added Daybell will have no chance for parole. Prosecutors say she and her husband were obsessed with doomsday-focused religious beliefs. Vallow Daybell is also charged in Arizona for the death of her first husband.

Cedar City Council Primary Election Debate 2023

The people of Cedar City have a chance on Monday to see the candidates running this year for the city council in person tonight. The debate event will be hosted and moderated by the Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service at Southern Utah University.

It's open to the public and free to attend -- slated to start with an informal meet-and-greet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the debate from 6 to 7:30. Seven candidates vying for the three open seats on the council are scheduled to attend. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed and you can watch the event at this link.

UDOT Looks At Improving South Cedar Interchange to I-15

The Utah Department of Transportation has recently started preparing an environmental document to evaluate potential improvements to the South Cedar Interchange of I-15 in Cedar City. The motion is in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. This process considers current and future transportation needs for Exit 57 while evaluating any potential impacts to the natural and built environments.

The public is encouraged to sign up for email updates on the environmental document website and will be invited to participate in two public meetings and provide feedback during two formal comment periods. The first opportunity will be the Public Scoping Meeting, which is anticipated in Fall 2023.

A Burning Weekend in Iron County

Lightning touched off a several fires over the weekend. In Iron County the Meadow fire was burning west of Cedar City near the base of Iron Mountain. The blaze was initially reported at about 60 acres, but official mapping has put the blaze at under 30 acres. On the Arizona Strip, fire has burned over 200 acres. No containment information on these fires has been provided at this time.

Celeste Remains of GOP Ballot

A judge will not remove Celeste Maloy from the GOP primary ballot. GOP member Richard Quin Denning said he sued the Lieutenant Governor and Maloy because she is an illegal candidate. Denning says Maloy isn't eligible because she didn't vote in the 2020 and 2022 elections. The judge said they don't want to upset special election process because ballots have already been mailed out.
