3 Arrested In Uintah County For Beating Disabled Person: KSUB News Summary
Three caretakers are under arrest for allegedly beating a young non-verbal man at a home for people with mental disabilities in Vernal. Uintah County Sheriff's Department deputies were dispatched to North Eastern Services on Friday. They located the victim who was bloody. Deputies say facility managers Kayla Evans and Ashia Wyasket, along with Nancy Peters who was a witness but did not report the assault, were each arrested. They are charged with intentional aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult, obstruction of justice and abuse of a vulnerable adult with criminal negligence. The man was transported to the Ashley Regional Medical Center, where his condition is not known. Other employees say this was not the first incident of abuse but they feared for their jobs and remained silent. Evans, Wyasket and Peters were booked into the Uintah County Jail.
St. George Hostage Situation Leads To Arrest
Seven children are okay after a hostage situation in St. George. Police say it started Saturday when they were called to a Quality Inn hotel for a possible domestic violence situation. Officers separated the couple, but the man was able to barricade himself inside of a room where the seven children were. After refusing to come out, SWAT breached the door and were able to get the children to safety. The man was then taken to jail and charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault, and more.
President Russell M. Nelson Celebrates 100th Birthday
LDS Church President Russell M. Nelson is celebrating his 100th birthday today. This makes him the first church president to reach the century mark. The church is hosting a birthday broadcast in his honor today streaming on the website. Celebrations are also taking place on all of the Brigham Young University campuses. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox declared the day to be officially in his honor.
Egg Recall Affects Utah
Utah is one of many states affected by an egg recall after more than 60 salmonella cases were reported. The CDC says Wisconsin-based Milo's Poultry Farms is recalling all eggs branded "Milo's Poultry Farms" and "Tony's Fresh Market" in Utah as well as Colorado and California, and several states in the Midwest. There are no reported deaths.
Police Shooting Leading To Death In Price Ruled As Justified
An officer-involved shooting that killed a man in Price this summer has been deemed justified. On July 30th, police were called to a home where 31-year-old Patrick Whitten reportedly threatened someone's life during a domestic incident. Officers searched the property and found Whitten hiding in a small outbuilding, where he pointed a gun at the officers and ignored commands to drop it. The officers opened fire, and Whitten was pronounced dead at the scene.
