(Garfield County, UT)  --  The Garfield County sheriff is defending a deputy's arrest of a teen last week for allegedly damaging a Back the Blue sign. She was originally pulled over on July 7th for speeding , but was arrested for allegedly crumbling up a Back the Blue sign right after the traffic stop and staring menacingly at the deputy.

The 19-year-old was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, but the county prosecutor upped it to a hate crime charge. County Sheriff James D. Perkins says Deputy Cree Carter acted in a proactive and compassionate manner as she singled out and attacked him for being an officer.
