Cedar City Area Gears Up For A Huge 250th Birthday Bash

Cedar City and the Visit Cedar City Brian Head Tourism Bureau are inviting residents and visitors to take part in a series of events celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, with activities planned throughout late June and early July.

The community-wide celebration is the culmination of months of programs, partnerships and activities designed to commemorate 250 years of freedom and independence in the United States. Local organizations have joined together to create what organizers describe as a month-long celebration honoring the nation’s history while bringing people together through music, education, recreation and family-friendly activities.

Events Will Go For Two Weeks

“America 250 is about celebrating the freedom and independence that have shaped our nation, and our city, and we’ve created a lineup of events that do just that. There’s really something for everyone,” Cedar City Councilman and America 250 Committee Co-Chair Scott Phillips said in a press release. “We're excited to welcome residents and visitors alike as we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary the Cedar City way.”

The celebration schedule includes the Beverley Center Anniversary Celebration on June 26 and Summer Jam with Uncle Sam on June 27.

Events on June 28 include Let Freedom Shine and the Spirit of America Concert.

The Freedom Found: America 250 Challenge is scheduled for June 29.

June 30 will feature Echoes of Freedom Speakers Corner and America 250 Playlist Lecture Part One.

On July 1, participants can take part in the Legacy of Liberty Time Capsule and America 250 Playlist Lecture Part Two.

Red, White and Reel Fun Family Movie Night is planned for July 2.

July 3 activities include A Sacred Celebration of America 250 and the Enoch City Independence Program.

America’s Birthday Extravaganza will be held on July 4. The Cedar City Lions Club Independence Day Parade & Festival will begin the day at 9:00 am with the Fourth of July Patriotic Parade (300 W Center Street east to Main Street then north to 400 N, Cedar City) followed by activities in the Main Street Park (200 N Main St), 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. The Cedar City Fireworks display will take place after dark (about 10 pm) at the Cedar City airport.

The fireworks will be synchronized with a playlist of patriotic music. That playlist will be broadcast on this radio station, and will also be available on our stream and app at 10PM on July 4th. The music is presented by the event Title Sponsor, BZI.

America’s 250 Potluck: Backyard Birthday Bash is scheduled for July 5.

Let Freedom Roll: Trail Dedication 250 will take place on July 6.

Making Waves for America is planned for July 7.

Organizers say the events are designed to appeal to a wide range of interests, offering opportunities for families, history enthusiasts, music lovers and outdoor recreation participants to join in the celebration. Together, the activities reflect both the nation’s history and the community spirit that continues to define Cedar City and the surrounding region.
