Another Hearing Scheduled For New Iron County Jail: KSUB News Summary
Iron County residents will have yet another opportunity to comment on the proposed new correctional facility being proposed for the county. This public hearing is scheduled for Monday, October 9th at 7PM. Like previous special meetings on the proposal, this will meeting will also be held at the Heritage Theater at 105 N. 100 East in Cedar City. The public hearing will discuss the issuance of not more that $89.95 million of general obligation bonds. There will also be discussion on the potential impact that the facilities, improvements, or properties that would be funded by these bonds would have on the private sector. The meeting will start at 7PM. For those not able to attend, the meeting will be streamed on the Iron County You Tube channel.
Beck Claims To Be “Duped” By Tim Ballard
A longtime conservative TV and radio personality is the latest to distance himself from former Operation Underground Railroad CEO Tim Ballard. Glenn Beck said this week he feels he was "duped" by Ballard, who at one time was listed as the executive director of Beck's nonprofit, "The Nazarene Fund." The former Fox News host made his comments during his show on Blaze Media, a network that Beck founded. Beck said he sent a reporter to interview the women who have accused Ballard of sexual misconduct. Beck added that the story is completed, but Blaze Media isn't publishing it at this time at the request of the attorney for the accusers. Operation Underground Railroad is an anti-child-trafficking nonprofit.
Exxon Mobile Fined $20,000 For Violating Safe Drinking Water Act
A subsidiary of Exxon-Mobil is being fined for federal violations related to wells within a reservation. The Environmental Protection Agency fined Texas-based XTO Energy 20-thousand-dollars for violating the Safe Drinking Water Act's Underground Injection Control program. The violation involves three injection wells within the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. The reservation for the Ute Indian Tribe covers seven counties in northeast Utah ranging from the Colorado border to just south of the Wyoming border.
Golden Spike Monument Heading To Utah
A 43-foot piece of artwork is on its way to Utah. The 43-foot Golden Spike Monument left Lexington, Kentucky on Thursday. Over the next two and-a-half weeks it will travel across the U.S. honoring the people who built the transcontinental railroad. The celebration will end October 23rd and 24th at the Utah State Capitol. The seven-thousand-pound golden spike will spend a few months in Brigham City, then travel to California before it's permanently installed at Golden Spike National Historical Park near Brigham City.
Women Rescued After Breaking Arm Hiking Kanarraville Falls
A 66-year-old woman is being treated after breaking her arm while hiking on the Kanarraville Falls Trail. Iron County Sheriff's deputies and members of the Search and Rescue and Ropes team rescued the woman and carried her out of the falls Wednesday afternoon. A Gold Cross Ambulance team took her to Cedar City Hospital.
