Get ready to party, Cedar City style! On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the community will come together to celebrate Cedar City’s 174th birthday—and everyone’s invited. The “Cedar City Birthday Spectacular” kicks off at 5:00 p.m. at the Heritage Theatre (105 N 100 E) with two hours of family fun. Expect games, puzzles, photo ops, trivia, and prizes—all centered on the town we call home. At 7:30 p.m., the main event moves to the theater stage for performances by the Cedar City Community Band, local artists, and special guests paying tribute to the city’s rich and lively history.

Cedar City has come a long way since November 11, 1851, when 35 settlers from Parowan set up camp along Coal Creek to build an iron-works town. The “cedars” they named it for were actually juniper trees, but the name stuck—and so did the community’s pioneer spirit. What began as a rugged frontier outpost is now a thriving city known for Southern Utah University, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and its role as the gateway to Utah’s National Parks.
