Cedar City Music Arts Presents Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company Friday
Cedar City patrons of the arts will have a rare opportunity to experience the creativity and artistic excellence in the world of contemporary dance as Cedar City Music Arts will present performances of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in Cedar City on Friday, November 10th. Cedar City Music Arts strives to increase among the residents of Southern Utah, specifically the Iron County Cedar City area, the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Music Arts.
Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company has carved a niche for itself in the realm of modern dance through its innovative choreography, technical prowess, and deep emotional resonance. The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company was founded in 1964 by Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury, two dance educators who were committed to promoting the art of modern dance.
At the heart of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company's mission is a dedication to pushing the boundaries of dance as an art form. The company's performances are characterized by their captivating fusion of movement, music, and storytelling, creating a unique and immersive experience for the audience. Through their expressive choreography, the dancers of Ririe-Woodbury have the ability to communicate profound emotions and complex narratives, transcending language barriers and connecting with audiences on a visceral level.
Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company also has a strong commitment to education and community outreach. As part of that outreach, for the past two weeks, the Department of Theatre, Dance, & Arts Administration at Southern Utah University has hosted a residency with the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. As a result of this residency, SUU dancers will join with Ririe-Woodbury dancers in the Friday performances.
One of those SUU dancers is Cassidy Wilde, who was inspired to pursue education and training in dance by watching Ririe-Woodbury perform when Cassidy was a high school senior. Now, the senior at Southern Utah University is hoping to be an inspiration to the next generation of dancer by being a part of the Friday performances.
Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company is distinguished by its collaborative spirit. The company frequently collaborates with renowned choreographers, musicians, and artists, both local and international, enriching their performances with diverse influences and creative perspectives. This spirit of collaboration not only enhances the artistic quality of their work but also contributes to the global dialogue surrounding contemporary dance.
There will be two performances at the Heritage Center on Friday. The first performance will be a matinee at 10AM and that performance is free to all Iron County School District students, SUU students and faculty. The evening performance will be at 7:30PM. Cost for the evening performance is $15 for students and $30 for other patrons. Tickets are available at cedarcitymusicarts.org.
