Cedar City Outlines Plans For RAP Tax Use
Cedar City is gearing up for exciting new amenities and significant improvements within its Leisure Services, all made possible through the Recreation, Arts, and Parks (RAP) Tax. Residents can look forward to several upgrades aimed at enhancing the community’s recreational facilities and overall quality of life.
One of the key projects funded by the RAP Tax is the installation of light bases at the Iron West Complex, a vital improvement that will extend the usability of the fields into the evening hours, benefiting local sports teams and recreational leagues. Additionally, much-needed restroom facilities will be constructed at Veteran's Little League, providing greater convenience for players, families, and spectators.
The Cedar City Aquatic Center will also see exciting new features with the addition of a zip line and climbing wall for the outdoor pool. These new attractions are expected to draw even more visitors, offering thrilling experiences for swimmers of all ages and making the Aquatic Center an even more popular destination for summer fun.
At Cross Hollow Arena, a series of upgrades will be implemented to enhance both safety and comfort for event-goers. This includes an electrical upgrade, the addition of a heater to the Indoor Arena, and a sound system upgrade for the Outdoor Arena, all of which will improve the functionality and experience of the venue for various events throughout the year.
One of the most anticipated projects is the renovation and upgrade of Park Discovery, scheduled to begin in the fall of 2024. As the second most utilized park in Cedar City, Park Discovery has been a beloved community space since its construction in 2001. However, the playground’s wooden structures and dated materials have not withstood the test of time, especially against the harsh winters and unpredictable weather. The renovation will focus on replacing these aging materials with safer, more durable alternatives, while maintaining the park's unique design and character.

The city appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as Park Discovery undergoes this necessary transformation. Once completed, the park will continue to be a cherished space for families and children, with improved safety and updated features that ensure its longevity for years to come.
