Many years ago, I was part of a radio show that we broadcast on Thursday afternoons that dealt with finances and estate planning. I was friends with those who came in to do the show, and since we were finished by about 2:30, we took the occasion after the show was done to go golfing almost every week when weather permitted.

We would head up to Cedar Ridge Golf Course and, as they say, we would “hit the links.” Well, that way easy enough to do back then, but now it seems we have grown to the point where some changes have had to be made at the golf course.

New Tee Time Reservation System Now In Place

Beginning Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the golf course made the swing toward modern convenience with the launch of a new tee time reservation system.

“The previous model at the golf course allowed golfers to show up and golf without a reservation,” said Jared Barnes, Cedar Ridge Golf Course Division Head and Golf Pro, in a press release. “However, moving to a tee time reservation system allows for shorter wait times and a more enjoyable experience. Our goal is less waiting, more playing.”

Gabbie Costello, the Public Information Officer for Cedar City was on the radio with us to explain that this is the trend happening with local courses. “This is the model that most golf courses use,” Costello told us, “and we get a lot of people who come up from St. George and Las Vegas, and they get frustrated when they have to wait” as could happen under the old system of just showing up.

The change comes amid a continued surge in the popularity of golf, which saw explosive growth in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Costello said, “golf, in general just boomed because it is an outdoor sport. People could continue social distancing, get outdoors. We live in a great place where there's outdoor trails and all kinds of things to do. But, specifically, golf boomed.”

Costello mentioned, that golfer can still just show up at the golf course, but they would have to wait for an open tee time, so she stresses that it is probably going to save time by making a tee time before going to the course.

Golfers can now book their tee times online through the new Cedar Ridge website at www.golfcedarridge.com. If a time slot appears open, players can be confident that it’s truly available and free from interference by tournaments or other events.

“There may be a few bumps along the way as we fine-tune the process,” Barnes acknowledged. “But we are confident this change will be a long-term win for everyone.”
