Community Meeting Tonight Concerning The Graff Point Fire

Community members are invited to a crucial meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. to discuss updates on the Graff Point Fire. Efforts to control the Graff Point Fire are showing progress, primarily through the construction of handlines. Crews are currently engaged in mopping up and cold trailing activities to ensure the fire stays within its designated boundaries. Cold trailing involves careful inspection for remaining hot spots, often using tactile methods to detect lingering heat. Meanwhile, mopping up entails extinguishing any smoldering debris and thoroughly dampening affected areas. Night operations were conducted last night and will continue as needed.

Despite recent precipitation, dry fuels have contributed to interior creeping and sporadic torching within the fire perimeter. Aircraft support is being utilized, particularly on steep terrain to the south, where ground access is challenging.

Weather conditions forecast isolated thunderstorms today with temperatures reaching the mid-80s, potentially impacting firefighting efforts. For evacuation inquiries, residents are advised to contact the Iron County Sheriff's Office and to avoid the affected area.

In the Fishlake National Forest, the lightning-caused Silver King Fire has spread across 17,648 acres, with containment now at 18%. Approximately 646 personnel are actively engaged in containment operations near Marysvale, UT.

Northeast firefighting efforts are concentrated on the Deer Creek fire, where crews are actively containing and monitoring the fire's edge. Night operations are ongoing, particularly focusing on Bullion Canyon to safeguard the Marysvale watershed and Miners Park historic area. Natural barriers in the Tusher Mountains are aiding containment efforts.

Further south, the Deer Springs Fire in Kane County now spans 11,783 acres with 70% containment. Operations are consolidating efforts on the west flank as containment strengthens, allowing for demobilization of personnel.
