Could Southern Utah Take A Page From Rexburg, Idaho?
I love when someone with an entrepreneurial spirit sees a need for a community, and then puts together a business or service to meet those needs. That's why this article from East Idaho News caught my attention.
I spent several years in the Rexburg and Idaho Falls area, and went to what was at the time Ricks College. I really enjoyed my time there, but unlike most of the students there, I was young married, and really wasn't too worried about the night life in town. It's a good thing because there really wasn't much there. Add to that the fact the campus was essentially dry and the choices became even more limited.
So the idea of a gathering place where people of a like mind can gather, maintain their collective standards, and enjoy a few mocktails together seems like it might be a successful venture. I wonder if something like that could work here in southern Utah.
Now, I have to admit the word mocktail has just recently hit my vocabulary, but apparently it's a growing trend in the country.
Mocktails, non-alcoholic beverages crafted to mimic the complexity and appeal of cocktails, have gained significant popularity in recent years. Their rise can be attributed to a growing awareness of health and wellness, as well as an increased demand for inclusive social experiences.
Traditionally, cocktails have been the go-to choice for social gatherings, celebrations, and casual outings. However, as more individuals seek to reduce their alcohol intake or abstain altogether, mocktails offer a sophisticated alternative. These drinks are crafted with the same care and creativity as their alcoholic counterparts, utilizing fresh ingredients, unique flavor combinations, and attractive presentations. They cater to a wide audience, including pregnant women, designated drivers, and those who simply prefer not to consume alcohol.
The health benefits of mocktails are a significant factor in their popularity. Unlike many alcoholic beverages, mocktails can be packed with vitamins and antioxidants, especially when made with fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They provide a flavorful way to stay hydrated and can be a healthier alternative to sugary sodas and other soft drinks. For those mindful of their caloric intake, mocktails often offer a lower-calorie option compared to traditional cocktails.
Mocktails also play a crucial role in promoting a more inclusive and responsible drinking culture. By offering an appealing alternative to alcohol, they ensure that everyone, regardless of their drinking preferences, can feel included in social activities.
I'm not trying to suggest how anyone should live their life, but I think a gathering place like the Fizz Rizz might be successful here in southern Utah. Maybe we'll find out someday.
