Dr. T Takes A Holiday
Every once in awhile, the stars align and you realize there is a day made for you. It seems for me, today is that day.
National Eat an Extra Dessert Day, celebrated on September 4th (although to be truthful, I'm sure I celebrate this more than once a year) is a holiday designed for people who feel that one dessert is simply not enough to satisfy their sugar cravings. It’s a day that celebrates the idea that dessert is not just a sweet conclusion to a meal but a fundamental human right that deserves a second helping.
The origin of this holiday is shrouded in mystery, probably because its founders were too busy devouring triple-layer cakes to document their culinary triumphs. One thing is clear: this day exists solely to give you permission to indulge in that second slice of pie, third scoop of ice cream, or perhaps even a dessert sampler platter—because why limit yourself?
This celebration is not without its challenges. For one, there’s the issue of choosing which extra dessert to indulge in. Should you go for the gooey chocolate brownie or the velvety cheesecake? Or perhaps both, in the spirit of the holiday? Let’s not forget the logistical difficulties of storing all these extra treats. Freezer space suddenly becomes more valuable than gold, and your friends and family may start eyeing your stash like it’s the last dessert on Earth.
Of course, the real heroes of National Eat an Extra Dessert Day are those who manage to convince themselves that they are doing it for the greater good. After all, somebody has to support the local bakery, right? And think of the economy! Every extra dessert purchased is a step toward a brighter, sweeter future.
So go ahead, have that second dessert. It’s not just a treat—it’s practically your civic duty. Just don’t blame us when you’re hunting for loose sweatpants the next day.
