From SUU To Yale: Journey Of Mitchell Zufelt, A Rising Legal Star
Mitchell Zufelt, a 2022 graduate of Southern Utah University (SUU), has been admitted to Yale Law School for enrollment this fall. Yale Law School, known for its prestigious reputation and extremely competitive acceptance rate, is an institution that has been shaping legal minds for nearly two centuries. Zufelt’s acceptance into such a renowned program is a testament to his dedication and the quality of SUU’s graduates.
A native of Cedar City, Zufelt initially chose SUU for its proximity to his friends and family, but it was the university's unique environment that kept him there. The small class sizes, exceptional faculty, and abundant opportunities for involvement allowed him to customize his college experience to align with his specific interests.
After earning his degree from SUU, Zufelt launched his career in research, working in a lab at the University of Chicago and conducting public health research on Chicago's South Side. Initially, he planned to pursue a PhD to continue his research career. However, despite recognizing the importance of his work, Zufelt felt constrained by the observational nature of research and sought a more active role in addressing the issues he encountered.
This realization led him to law, where he hopes to gain the skills necessary to advocate effectively for the communities he works with. His experiences at SUU, particularly with the Health Education Action Lab (HEAL) and the Southern Utah University Student Association (SUUSA), were instrumental in preparing him for this next step.
Zufelt’s journey reflects his commitment to public service and his desire to make a meaningful impact. Although he has yet to decide on a specific area of law, he aims to return to Utah to serve and advocate for his community, attributing much of his success to the support he received from SUU’s community.
