A new bill seeks to cut the number of license plates needed on a vehicle from two to one. Many states no longer require a front plate. Senator Daniel McCay is sponsoring House Bill 45. This bill proposes that money saved from printing half the number of plates could go to the Utah Highway Patrol to increase trooper availability. The bill passed the House Revenue and Taxation Committee with a favorable recommendation.

Injured Trooper Upgraded To Stable Condition

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper is now in stable condition after he was injured in a fall off a Salt Lake City overpass on Tuesday. Trooper Steve "Odie" Myer was part of a group of law enforcement trying to stop a vehicle in connection with a drug investigation. Myer was placing a spike strip on the highway when he fell off an overpass bridge. He was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries. Officials say he is expected to recover.

Man Jailed On Suspicion Of Child Kidnapping

A man is in custody for trying to lure a three-year-old girl into his vehicle late Tuesday in South Salt Lake. The father of the child called police when he saw a man driving a black Tesla approach his daughter, waving his hand. The dad says the driver left the scene when he realized a parent was nearby. Police traced the vehicle to a convicted sex offender. 43-year-old Travis Groce was arrested by Taylorsville police and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Groce is charged on suspicion of child kidnapping, a first-degree felony. Police say he has a previous conviction for lewdness involving a child.

Skier Dies From Injuries Sustained In Fall

Officials say skiers should stay within resort safety zones or be well prepared if they exit them. On Monday, the Snowbasin Ski Patrol at the resort located a 49-year-old man after he skied off a cliff in an area known as the Mt.Ogden Bowl, falling approximately 100 feet. The man was unresponsive. He was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Weber Fire District officials say they are responding to a number of calls involving backcountry skiers.
