Residents and tourists are urged to prepare for excessive heat that will create dangerous conditions in parts of Utah by midweek. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for portions of Utah. Meteorologists say lower Washington County, the Glen Canyon Recreation Area of Lake Powell and the lower elevations of the Grand Canyon will be getting unseasonable and "very hot temperatures" especially toward the end of the week. Highs could hit 111 degrees with evening lows dropping only into the 70s. In St. George, officials say if the mercury rises this high, it would be the first triple digit days in the city this year.
