Hey Utah! Relax!
This article by Walker Larson caught our attention and we talked about it on the radio the other day. I know many people who just can't sit still, they always have to be engaged in doing something. I admire people like that in a state of constant accomplishment. While I do admire them, I can't be like them. I have to build time into my schedule to unwind and relax.
Apparently, I'm not the only one. I recently found out that we celebrate National Relaxation Day on August 15th.
If you haven't heard of it, National Relaxation Day is a reminder of the importance of taking time to unwind in a world that often glorifies busyness. In a society that values productivity and constant activity, relaxation is not just a luxury but a necessity for maintaining mental and physical health.
The need for relaxation stems from the demands of modern life, where stress is a common companion. Chronic stress can lead to numerous health issues, including anxiety, depression, heart disease, and weakened immunity. Taking time to relax allows the body and mind to recover, reducing the risk of these negative outcomes. It’s a form of self-care that helps maintain balance and overall well-being.
Relaxation doesn’t necessarily mean lounging on a beach, though that’s certainly an ideal way to unwind. It can be as simple as setting aside a few minutes each day for a mindful practice, like deep breathing, meditation, or even a short walk in nature. These activities can help lower stress hormones, reduce muscle tension, and improve mood. Regular relaxation can also enhance focus, creativity, and decision-making, making it easier to navigate life’s challenges.
National Relaxation Day encourages us to slow down and appreciate the present moment. In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to overlook the importance of taking breaks. However, scheduling regular relaxation can lead to increased productivity in the long run. When we allow ourselves time to rest, we return to our tasks with renewed energy and a clearer mind.
On this day, individuals are encouraged to prioritize their well-being by engaging in activities that bring them peace and joy. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a nap, or spending time with loved ones, the goal is to disconnect from the stressors of life and reconnect with oneself.
Ultimately, National Relaxation Day serves as a reminder that taking time to relax is essential for a healthy, fulfilling life. By making relaxation a regular part of our routine, we can better manage stress and maintain a sense of balance in our lives.
So, I hope you will build some time in you busy day to day life t unwind and relax. And, if by chance your relaxation time actually includes that day lounging on the beach, feel free to give me a call.
