I don't know about you, but I have found through my life that trying to make a bargain, or a deal with God, doesn't usually turn out the way I hope for. Not like there's kind of some divine ill will coming into my life, but often time where I'm looking for outcome A, God usually opts to send outcome B along. And yes, B turns out to be the better option.

That being said, I still try to offer options to the heavens that I think would be, well kind of neat. One such deal I'm trying to negotiate now actually has to do with what I would like to do after I depart mortality. If given a choice of chores to do in the next life, I would like to spend as much time as I can hanging out with the animals.

I can hear it now. Wait!?? What about your family and friends?!?? Don't you want to be with them? And yes, absolutely, extended time with those in the deepest regions of my heart in mortality, would be the most cherished time post mortality.

However, here in life I often feel connected to the divine when I'm in the company of the animal kingdom. So, if I could get a little more of that in the next life it would be, no pun intended, heaven.

If you were to come in to my home and find me reading while having our dog up on my lap, you would see a person as contented as they could be. But that brings up the question, how much heaven can I bring into my home? Well, according to World Population Review here in Utah the answer is “it depends.”

Utah has no statewide law restricting the number of dogs and cats you can have in your home, but several municipalities and counties do impose limits.

For example, where I live in Cedar City, the code says I can have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 rabbits. There have been times where we have pushed those limits. In St. George, you are also limited to 2 dogs, but I couldn't find a restriction on cats.

A Little Cat Bias In Ogden?

Up north, in West Valley City, you can have up to 4 dogs or cats, with a permit, and they all must be microchipped and sterilized. In Draper, you could no more than three dogs or cats at any one residence, and in Ogden you can have two dogs over six month old, and 4 cats. Seems a little cat bias there, Ogden.

Amazingly, Salt Lake City, our largest population center and with a city government that seems too like to stick its nose into every aspect of citizens lives has no restrictions on the amount of dogs a person can own.

And there were some interesting numbers from some of the other states in the World Population report. Like what's the deal in Montana? You can have 2 dogs, but if you do, you need a state multiple animal permit. Really? On the other end, in Washington state you can have up to 50 dogs per household! As much as it might be cool to have 50 dogs in the house, I'm not sure it's worth the price of moving to Washington.

Anyway, if you love your furry companions, it might be worth checking with your municipalities to see what limits exist in your town.
