In the last few weeks as part of my routine on the radio, I have been reading ten second announcements from the Utah Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Coordinating Council (they really need to work on an easier name to remember). One of those announcements says, in part

Eat a healthy diet of fish, veggies and fruit to reduce your risk of dementia and keep your brain sharp.

Well, eating fish in Utah isn't really that hard of a thing to do, since there are many places for you to go and catch fish and bring them home for dinner for the family. I have enjoyed feasting on bass that I have pulled out of Lake Powell on more than one occasion. But I will admit, fish isn't as much of a staple in my diet as it, perhaps should be.

Freshwater VS Seafood

Freshwater fish do provide important vitamins such as B12 and D, but since we are looking at brain health, I've come to understand that seafood might be the better option. Regular consumption of seafood has been linked to improved cognitive function and a lower risk of age-related cognitive decline. In addition, many types of seafood, particularly fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and tuna, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart health by lowering blood pressure, reducing inflammation, and decreasing the risk of heart disease.

So it would probably be a good idea, from time to time, to include some product from the ocean in our diet, but where to go. Even though we have a lighthouse in town, we do live in a land locked state.

There are options for seafood all over southern Utah, But Cheapism released a list of the Best Seafood Restaurant in Every State, and according to their report, the place to go for seafood in Utah is Takashi Sushi in Salt Lake City.

According to their website they have a full line of sushi offerings as well as other seafood options, and yes there are non-seafood menu items as well. Next time your along the Wasatch Front, it might be worth checking out, but reservations are hard to get sometimes, especially on the weekends.

Or, you can always just open a can of tuna.
