Iron County Inmate Dies While In Custody

George William Schuessler, an inmate at the Iron County Correctional Facility, was found alone and unresponsive in his cell on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Medical staff and corrections deputies attempted to perform life-saving efforts on Schuessler. Schuessler was transported to the Cedar City Hospital and later taken to the St. George Regional Hospital via life flight. Schuessler was pronounced dead at the St. George Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Although no foul play is suspected, this incident is being investigated by the Critical Incident Task Force.
