BIG 12 Unveils Conference Tournament Court
The best time of the year for any basketball fan is nigh at hand.
For most teams, only a few regular season games remain, and the only thing between those and the poorly done fan predictions of the March Madness bracket itself, is the conference tournament before the main tournament.
With over 350 schools and their being 31 conferences in division one hoops, there’s a lot of ball to play in between now and the big dance when the “first four” square off on March 18th.
With hopes of locking down one of 68 available spots, a good majority of games played in this span will be high intensity, must win situations, making it a premier time to watch.
Not all March Madness comes in the form of the 68 team showdown as dreams are made and broken days before.
Some conferences start their tournament out as soon as they possibly can such as they ASUN on march 2nd or the Horizon League on March 4th.
For the big power conferences and mid majors, the tournaments normally begin right in the 2nd week of March.
The Big 12 conference for example, home of the BYU Cougars and Utah Utes, will kick their first round off on Monday the 11th of March in Kansas City, Missouri at the T-Mobile Center.
It starts with the #12 and #13 seed doing battle at 10:30 AM Utah time.
Now you can’t have a neutral floor high stakes tournament without a little flair.
This is the playoffs before the playoffs and their has to be something to signify that right? Sure.
Most tournaments will mark the occasion with unique logos, looks, and color schemes on the hardwood itself, and the Big 12 is going all out this year.
Unveiled today, the Big 12 will has partnered with UNDEFEATED, a sportswear brand, to put together the “XII Court” for the very first time.
The court features a bold aesthetic with a Brooklyn Nets design, a complete change from the floor used last year.
The floor will debut live and in person on March 5th for the Women’s Big 12 Conference Tournament.
With a unique look comes a unique feel and BYU/Utah fans will be hoping to see some magic happen come game time.
If the Tournament started today BYU would be the 5th seed, resting on day one awaiting the winner of Kansas State and UCF in the #12 VS #13 matchup.
Utah would currently be slotted into the #11 spot set to take on potential #14 Oklahoma State.
If the Utes took care of business they would be rewarded with #6, who is currently Kansas.
Now that’s pure hypothetical as there are still games to be played and standings to finalize, but it’s at least close enough to reveal the court and begin speculation on what the path will be for a Big 12 automatic bid to the big dance.
