If you grow a garden in Utah, you know it can be a struggle with some of the harsh weather. Part of the reason to use a greenhouse is to extend the growing season. If you want to explore the benefits of greenhouse, there are some very affordable options.

How to Extend the Growing Season

A greenhouse provides warmer conditions for your plants by trapping the sun's heat inside. This means you can start growing your plants a month earlier than you would outside. It also can give you an extra month when things cool down in the fall.

Building a full-size greenhouse with a circulation system can get expensive fast with a beautiful glass version running thousands of dollars. This could be a mistake if all you want to do is start some seedlings growing to plant later in your garden.

Small Portable Greenhouse Options

You can get a small, one rack greenhouse enclosure for around $10 online. Even a version that is 6 by 8 feet is around $60. These come with shelves and plastic covering that will trap the sun’s heat.

There are also affordable versions made out of wood that are less likely to blow into your neighbor’s yard in a stiff wind. These cheap greenhouse options are great for the beginning gardener who wants to experiment with growing plants in an enclosure.
