There’s a lunar eclipse that will be seen over the west on March 15th. This is where the earth gets between the sun and the moon and makes the moon look orange. Known as a blood moon in ancient times, it spelled danger for earlier civilizations.

The Longest Lunar Eclipse of the Century

The eclipse will appear for a long time on Friday. The moon will pass right through the center of the earth’s shadow making it last for over an hour. It will appear just after 11:00 PM Thursday night over Utah and peak near 01:00 AM, lasting for 103 minutes total.

You won’t need any special equipment to see it. Just wrap yourself in something warm, go outside and look up. Even if it is cloudy, with how long the eclipse will last, you should be able to catch a glimpse.

Protect Your Leader and Your Women

When you do stare at the eclipse, picture yourself living in ancient Mesopotamia. These people believed a blood moon threatened their king. They would actually place a disposable stand in on the throne during the eclipse to keep their leader safe.

The Inca thought the moon was being eaten by a jaguar that would turn on the earth after it finished munching our lunar satellite. They would threaten the jaguar by thrusting their spears to heaven and causing their dogs to bark at it.

Some Hindus in India thought the blood moon was the head of a demon. It was immortal but disfigured and was seeking revenge on the sun and moon. They felt like it brought misfortune, especially for pregnant women.

It had to be a disturbing sight for these people in the past and there are plenty of us in the current day that are wary of signs in the heavens. Is it possible this blood moon could mean something more?
