There are many people in Utah who speak more than one language. A recent scientific study has revealed that people who are multilingual have brains that age slower than if you only speak one language.
Learning a Second Language May Help Your Brain
The results of a large study that looked at the effect of speaking more than one language on brain health was recently published in the scientific journal. They had discovered a correlation in smaller studies that weren’t conclusive.
According to researchers who studied 80,000 people they found that knowing a second language can slow down aging by half as compared to those who only speak one. That is a big deal when it comes to cognitive decline.
There May Be Benefits to Begin Learning a Language
They didn’t pinpoint exactly why knowing a second language was so beneficial. They also didn’t distinguish between people who know a second language but never use it. However, they did note that beginning to learn a language could be beneficial.
In Utah, the second most spoken language is Spanish followed by Portuguese. These might be some good languages to start learning that could be good for your brain and possibly your career.
