Chapter 12 Overthrown by Fire 74

Succubus hated his instructor. He rose from where he was sitting and Borgin thrust his hand forward, sending the ball of fire crashing into his skin.

Succubus was aware he was different. His ability to think around a problem seemed to be rare for a demon. The other demons did what they were told and didn’t ever seem to think it through. It was how they were taught. Demons are driven in their desire for power over others. They meet head on like dueling rams, slamming together until one or the other submits.

Thinking of some of the things Ansu had shown him, Succubus began to look for solutions that weren’t being taught in the classroom. His natural curiosity and quick mind helped him see other opportunities.

As he further developed this unusual ability, it proved useful for him. It helped him think around predicaments and conflicts. He was able to complete math and physics problems, sometimes by thinking around the usual steps.

This of course brought more wrath from his teacher, Borgin, who belittled and cursed him despite the fact that he still had the right answer. He limited his creative solutions in the classroom.

Away from there, Succubus had begun to practice cursing the air in ways he hadn’t been taught. He had become quite good at making whirlwinds. Now, learning to work with fire, the number of creative options increased. He attempted new ways of working with the elements, making them do things that had not been demonstrated by Borgin.
