“If he didn't assault him, what exactly did Borgin say happened?” asked Malphas.

“He told me how he was teaching his class to combine oxygen and fire,” said Asag. The others nodded, being familiar with the technique. “Borgin had determined the student Succubus needed to be taught a lesson. He had him kneel before him and he was cursing the fire down with air onto his head. At the last moment, the flame moved forward and shot towards the teacher.”

“Why would he curse a student with that much fire?” asked Malphas.

Things Go South

“That was his first attempt,” replied Asag. “It was not big at first. When it went wrong, in his fury, he brought a destructive amount of flame again down towards the student. The same thing happened. The fire came forward, only this time, the focused flame consumed Borgin.”

"What do you mean the flame came forward?" asked Culsu.

"As near as I can tell, the student produced an air current which redirected the curse past him and back at his instructor." Asag's emotionless voice was clinical in its description.

The nine Demon Lords leaned back pondering what they had heard.
