The best way to see Southern Utah may be on a Onewheel. Sure, it’s fun to hike around the red rocks on the amazing trails, but you can see a lot more if you can travel quietly at 20 mph on a battery driven machine that looks kind of like a skateboard.

The Rise of Onewheel Sports

A sport has grown quickly around the Onewheel that looks kind of like a skateboard with a big wheel in the middle. Because of the inflated wheel, that is about as big as a wheelbarrow tire, these can easily go off road.

They also work well on the sandstone that is found through much of Southern Utah. You can see the versatility of the Onewheel in this video recorded by these enthusiasts riding around the cliffs near Hurricane.

Getting Started: Skills and Costs

It does take a certain amount of skill and if you have experience with a skateboard or a long board, it can certainly help. It is also fairly expensive with a top-of-the-line model going for about $3,200.

However, if you want to try it out, there is a site that will let you rent one to try out in St. George/ These are current owners who rent their Onewheel out when they aren’t using it. It can cost $30 to $75 a day depending on the model.
