As you might remember I wrote an article a few months ago about the day I unexpectedly inherited a collection of felt hangers. The point of that article was simple: I was looking for something, and it parachuted into my hands like a gift from above.

You might have wondered why I was looking for felt hangers, in fact when I mentioned them on the air, I swear co-host and brother Dave gasped like I had introduced a piranha into a goldfish bowl. Why was I looking to attract the hanger that causes Dave duress into my closet?

Because a de-clutter expert suggested that these are needed to keep hung clothes from sliding onto the floor in a sad little heap. I wasn't convinced, but curious, but not curious enough to buy more hangers when I already had a small army of them at home.

Fast‑forward, and now I’ve had enough time with these velvety little troublemakers to report back on their wonders… and their quirks.

They Grab

This can be a positive because like a boa constrictor on "Make-a-Hamster-Friend" day they are clingy. You get clothing near it this hanger will snag it and won't want to let go, great for pants that like to shimmy down and bunch on the low side of the horizontal bar, great for dresses with a loose collar that likes to sneak to the floor for a cuddle puddle after the closet lights are off.

They Also… Grab

Not so great when you are hoping gravity and a little slide will get say a shirt to find its own center seam for a nice hang. You can see the trouble with these two hangers with a silky style golf shirt.

Approach the power of a cling with care. Some items love the grab; others are fighting it like a puppy who knows you snuck some medicine in his doggy treat.
