You may not know Dave and I are brothers. You also may not know that Dave has written a 3 book fantasy series called “The Demon Curse” about demons and their business among humans, specifically a family in Chicago that unintentionally bumped into the demon world.
Now, Dave may or may not know that I have obtained a copy of his first book and decided to share it with you. I am posting a portion of the book per week, like the installments writers used to do in the Charles Dickens era. I will post this weekly (until I get caught) so without further introduction I give you the second installment of The Demon Curse Series Book #1 “Son of Ruin” written by David E. Hiatt.
Chapter 1 The Summoning Installment 2
Down below the demon Lords methodically move in their ancient dance around the cauldron and their pace begins to slow. A hush falls on those assembled as the Ten perform their final chants, their hands raised in a dark symphony.
Blood of kindred,
flesh of stone,
spawn of darkness,
forged in heat,
enter...
son of ruin.
Now they await the arrival of the first yearling. After a moment of tense anticipation, the head of the Ten, a large demon named Asag, raises his gnarled hand toward the fire and whispers, "Karos."
A splashing sound comes from the pot followed by whimpering and a large demon standing nearby walks to the cauldron, reaches inside and pulls a huddled, bloody mass out and casts it casually to the rock. The demon Karos sobs pitifully and slowly moves back away to the side.
With that, the newest demon is born into the world of demons in this unnatural rite. This sequence repeats several times, the Ten chant, a name is given, and a small bloody demon is removed.
Hellion begins to lose interest in the proceedings as it goes on and turns his massive bulk to stare at the fires in the clawed rock beneath him. He wonders if the sign whispered to him years ago was deception, or perhaps, it happened previously, and he somehow missed it.

Death is only moments away. This summoning could be followed by a cursing. His mind wanders to the cave where his remains will be taken.
It could be a memorable year, he thought.
There you have it. The second piece of the book. Let me know if you enjoyed this, want more, or anything else I can do to make it easier to read.
