There’s so much to explore in the fall in Southern Utah, but one of the biggest (literally) attractions is just up the road near Fish Lake. I’m talking about our world-famous giant, Pando—a behemoth so large it’s ranked as one of the biggest organisms on Earth.

Pando isn’t your average creature. In fact, it’s a massive grove of aspen trees that scientists have determined is one single living organism. That’s right—this leafy giant spreads over 106 acres and weighs around 13 million pounds. Talk about a heavyweight! Not that Pando is sensitive about being called the heaviest (as far as I know—maybe I should ask before I start spreading this information so freely).

While Pando is stunning all year long, fall is when it really shines. As the leaves turn brilliant shades of yellow and orange, you’ll want to break out the camera and capture this natural masterpiece. Plus, it's the perfect time to visit before snow starts flying and turns the grove into a frosty wonderland.

So, plan a trip this fall to meet one of Utah’s most famous residents. Head up to Fish Lake to marvel at Pando, the grove that teaches us all a thing or two about spreading out—better than your Uncle Pete's man-spread. And while you’re there, get inspired about owning your weight—it will only help as we plan on overdoing it in the near future (sorry, I don’t mean to keep harping on the weight, Pando).

It’s a photo-op dream, a leaf-collector’s paradise, and let’s be honest, a great bragging right to say you’ve seen one of the world’s largest living organisms.
