
Expect To See Dangerous Animals in Populated Areas of Utah With Continuing Drought
Drought conditions are increasing in Utah so much that Governor Cox is calling on residents to conserve water. These dry conditions are hard on wildlife as well and increase the chance of people and animal encounters.
Wildlife Under Pressure: The Impact of Drought
In a study of drought conditions in California, Science Advances showed how dwindling resources in the wild parts of the state caused animals to look for food and water in populated areas.
This isn't too surprising, but they found the carnivores, or more dangerous animals were far more likely to get into conflict with humans. These animals roam farther and are more aggressive at approaching places where people are.
Safety First: Hiking and Camping in Drought Conditions
This is something to be aware of when hiking or camping. It is also on the radar of ranchers and farmers who have animals that will be impacted by less resources for animals in the wild.
They also note in the study how the perception of these animals takes on a more negative tone among the general public in times of drought. When people start loosing pets and sustaining property damage, wild animals are seen more as a problem.

As Utah faces unprecedented changes to the amount of moisture falling each year along with a growing population, the likely hood of wild animals and humans clashing will increase.
