However, along with the gift of free speech, comes the responsibility of adhering to social norms and the standards of public decency.

You can't just put anything you want on a license plate. For example, anything of a sexual nature is strictly forbidden.  Any references to drugs or partisan politics is forbidden as well, and as far as I can tell they don't need to give a full reason for saying no.

Thousands of vanity plate applications are processed every year through the DMV, and hundreds of vanity plate applications are denied.

In fact, there is even talk of doing away with vanity plates altogether in the state because it's such a hassle to monitor.

I for one have looked at the entire list or rejected plates, and I have no idea how most of they could be construed as being sexual in nature.

Which leads me to believe that someone at the Utah DMV is either...

  1. A Very knowledgeable pervert or
  2. An overly sensitive prude

But regardless of whoever is in charge, these personalized plate designs were outright rejected, and it's pretty easy to see why.
