Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation Supports Mental Health At SUU

The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation has pledged an $850,000 challenge grant to bolster mental health resources at Southern Utah University (SUU). This initiative aims to address the pressing need for accessible mental health services for SUU students, both on campus and online.

Mindy Benson, President of SUU, expressed gratitude for the Miller Family Foundation's generosity, emphasizing the critical necessity of mental health support for the university's community. With rising mental health concerns among college students, exacerbated by the pandemic, initiatives like this grant are pivotal for student well-being.

The grant will enable SUU to expand its mental health services, including additional licensed counselors and essential resources such as psychological evaluations, biofeedback kits, and suicide prevention training. Moreover, it will bolster existing partnerships, like the one with TimelyCare, a virtual counseling service, which has proven instrumental in providing accessible mental health support.

Jared Tippets, VP for Student Affairs at SUU, highlighted the success of their partnership with TimelyCare, which has significantly reduced wait times for counseling sessions and provided vital support to over 1,600 students, faculty, and staff.

Gail Miller, chair of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in supporting student success and well-being. The foundation's grant, coupled with matching donations, presents an opportunity for the community to come together and make a substantial impact on the mental health of SUU students.
