Maloy Discusses Budget Process In Southern Utah Radio Interview
On a recent appearance on the Big Picture Morning Show on KSUB Radio in Cedar City, Congresswoman Celeste Maloy (R-UT) offered insight into the complex budget resolution process underway in Washington and the urgency behind current fiscal negotiations.
Maloy explained that the budget resolution passed by Congress is just the beginning of a longer process. “The resolution is the instructions to the chairman in the House and the Senate of how to write the reconciliation bill,” she said during the radio interview. The upcoming reconciliation bill, which she referred to as “the one big beautiful bill,” will likely surface next month and could outline as much as $1.5 trillion in spending cuts over the next decade.
While acknowledging the confusion and concern over proposed spending cuts, Maloy said these steps are necessary to renew the Trump-era tax cuts and avoid a significant tax hike on American families. “We don't have a choice. The American people want less spending… and they want those tax cuts renewed,” she said.

Still, she acknowledged the tension between public demand for fiscal responsibility and the discomfort caused by budget cuts. “Everybody wants something cut, but not the things that benefit them,” Maloy noted. She added that President Trump is willing to target inefficiencies within the executive branch itself, including the use of AI to streamline operations.
Maloy urged constituents to stay calm in the face of alarming headlines. “Sleep on it for two nights before you react,” she advised. “We’re wearing ourselves out emotionally reacting to everything we think is coming.”
Looking ahead, Maloy emphasized the narrow timeline to show economic progress before the 2026 midterms. “If we don’t act fast, the House could flip and spend the second half of Trump’s administration trying to impeach him again,” she warned.
