Utah officials are now caring for the non-verbal eight-year-old child of a Provo couple who were arrested Tuesday. Police say Emily and Benjamin Sorensen were taken into custody on suspicion of child abuse. Police say the parents had allegedly continued to chain the child in bed for about ten hours nightly after being warned not to do so. The couple was released from jail early Wednesday after agreeing to court-mandated provisions. The parents promised to appear for all required court proceedings and to avoid contact with the victim. Benjamin Sorenson was also cautioned to "commit no new offenses during the period of release." Four other siblings in the home were also removed. Police acted after they were contacted by the Division of Child and Family Services.
