More Snow Coming To Utah, But Mostly Up North: KSUB News Summary
A new cold front is expected to move through Utah late Monday replacing near spring-like weather this past weekend. The front will hit the Wasatch, West Uinta, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs and central mountains with up to two feet of snow. Valley areas could see one to four inches but dangerous flash freezing is possible. The rain in the valleys Monday night could turn to ice then snow as the front advances. Commuters should look out for black ice on roadways Tuesday. Brianhead and the southern Utah Mountains remain under a Winter Weather Advisory, with 6 to 12 inches of snow listed as possible. The Winter Weather Advisory that had been issued earlier for Cedar City has been cancelled.
Hurricane Home Hit By Teenage Driver
A teenage driver crashed into a house in Hurricane Sunday morning. First responders were called to 100 North near 700 West, where they found a car that had hit the front of a home, causing some damage to the wall. Officials say it happened when a 16-year-old boy who was driving the car went around a roundabout too fast and lost control. The driver wasn't hurt, but he was cited for speeding and other violations.
Utah health officials are working to problem-solve an issue impacting some Medicaid recipients. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services says a vendor network outage is preventing some Medicaid users from filling prescriptions. The department contacted 17-thousand Utahns who use high-risk and life-sustaining medication. Change Healthcare is the pharmacy vendor for state Medicaid prescriptions paid directly by Medicaid. They reported a cybersecurity issue last week that led it to disconnect its system. The department has advised pharmacies to provide a 30-day supply of medications at no cost to affected members.
Candidates Split On MLB In Utah
Governor Spencer Cox is in a slugfest with his gubernatorial opponents over a potential new MLB stadium. At issue is the possibility of new tax increases that would go with it. The latest version of the baseball bill, HB 562 shows that the Fairpark Area Investment and Restoration District could impose statewide hikes on hotel room and rental car taxes. Carson Jorgenson, candidate and former state Republican Party chair, says people are angry about any new taxes. He called for a vote of the people not the legislature. Republican Rep. Phil Lyman of San Juan County says he's a "hard no" on the MLB plan.
