Recount Process For 2nd Congressional District Underway
Republicans in Utah's 2nd Congressional District, the geographically largest district in the state, are having their primary ballots recounted today. The recount is for U.S. Representative Celeste Maloy and Republican candidate Colby Jenkins. Election officials say 107-thousand-282 votes were cast either in person or through the mail on June 25th. Just 214 votes separated the two candidates with Maloy having the edge. Jenkins says he formally requested the recount by contacting Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, who oversees the state's elections. Jenkins asked that his campaign representatives be given "meaningful access" to the recount process. Under Utah law, a candidate is entitled to request a recount if they finish within 0.25 percentage points in the race. Iron County Clerk Jon Whittaker in a public notice says the recount in Iron County will begin on Wednesday, July 31st.
