Oh (Utah) Sinners Let’s Go Down…To Nevada
We have at times promoted the Tradio show by saying one mans junk is another mans treasure. I kind of feel the same way about sin. To be sure, some acts have mostly universal acceptance of being sinful, murder for example. But what are considered vices by some are no big deal to others.
Still, I find it interesting that every year, the financial website WalletHub publishes the list of the Most Sinful States in America.
To better understand which states are most prone to vice, WalletHub conducted a study analyzing the 50 states based on seven key dimensions: Anger & Hatred, Jealousy, Excesses & Vices, Greed, Lust, Vanity, and Laziness. Within these categories, WalletHub used 54 different metrics to measure behaviors such as violent crime rates, excessive drinking, and gambling addiction.
By evaluating each metric on a 100-point scale, WalletHub assigned states an overall Vice Index score, ranking them from most to least sinful. To ensure fairness, adjustments were made in population calculations, preventing minor differences from overly influencing the results.
The list is out for 2025 and there hasn't been a lot of changes in the sin rankings from last year.
Probably to the surprise of only a few, Nevada comes in at number one on the Sin List. The Silver State comes in first in the categories of jealously and greed, and is number two in the excesses and vices category. And, Nevada comes in at number five in the categories of lust and laziness. As far as sin goes, that's quite the resume.
Oh, but hold on my Utah friends! Before you start patting yourselves on the back for being the least sinful state in the country, well, we aren't. Nope, that honor goes a little north of us up to the Gem State of Idaho.

Utah was toward the bottom of the sin meter, coming in at number forty seven on the list.
But we apparently have some work to do on vanity in the Beehive State. Or better said, work to reduce vanity as we came in at the 17th most vain state in the country. Somehow, I think that's Provo's fault.
