Martha Hughes Cannon Statue To Be Sent To U.S. Capitol
Officials will soon gather at the state Capitol for a public send-off of a statue honoring a Utah woman. The statue of Martha Hughes Cannon is headed to its permanent installation in Washington, D.C. The send-off party for the statue is at 5 p.m. on June 5th and the public is invited for music, food, and family activities. Cannon was Utah's first female state senator and a pioneer in women's suffrage efforts until she died in the 1930s. Her statue is currently on the third floor of the Utah Capitol, outside the old state Supreme Court Chambers.
Its move to the U.S. Capital and National Statuary Hall was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Each state is allowed two statues and in 2018 Utah passed a law to send her likeness to replace TV pioneer Philo Farnsworth. Cannon will be with a statue of Brigham Young. Farnsworth's statue will be installed at Utah Valley University.

Shelter In Place Order Lifted In Utah County
A shelter-in-place order is now lifted for a Utah County neighborhood after police initially responded to a report that armed juveniles were possibly threatening homeowners. American Fork police say they arrived at the home near Morgan Boulevard in Cedar Hills this past weekend and found no evidence of a burglary in progress. A shelter-in-place was issued for people living within a radius of the home while the investigation was ongoing. Police say a resident of the home had made the call to police but no other information is available.
