President Ballard Laid To Rest: KSUB News Summary
Members of the LDS Church have paid their respects to the late acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, M. Russell Ballard. Elder Holland Named Acting President Of Quorum Of The Twelve Apostles
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has appointed Elder Jeffrey R. Holland to serve as Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The popular 82-year-old Holland succeeds the late M. Russell Ballard, who died earlier this week at age 95. Holland, a St. George native, carries the title of Acting President because the more senior Dallin H. Oaks, serves in the governing First Presidency as a counselor to Church President Russell M. Nelson. The acting president is responsible for presiding over the Quorum's weekly gatherings, among other responsibilities.
Group Petitions To Have Romney Run For President
An online petition is calling on Utah Senator Mitt Romney and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin to launch a bipartisan presidential ticket. A group called the Draft Romney Manchin Committee put the petition up online, writing "Our country needs leaders who can bridge the divide between political extremes." The goal of the petition is to get the No Labels convention in Dallas to nominate Romney for president and Manchin for Vice President. As of this afternoon, the petition has a little more than 300 signatures.
$85,000 Raised For Children's Justice Center From “Dancing With Community Stars”
Cedar City's annual Dancing with the Community Stars raised more than 85-thousand dollars for the Iron County Children's Justice Center. Community members partnered with professionally dance partners and put on a show for a packed house at the Heritage Center Theatre Tuesday night. The night's theme was Dancing Through the Decades and dancers started with a 1930s jazz number, working their way through the years and closing the show with a hip-hop performance from the early two-thousands.
Brian Head Resort Welcoming Skiers For The Season
Brian Head Resort is open for the season today. The Blackfoot and Pioneer lifts were scheduled to open first, with an Opening Day celebration at 10 a.m. at the Blackfoot Life on Giant Steps Mountain. Southern Utah's preeminent ski destination will host its inaugural event of the season, the Picnic Trail Rail Jam.
