(Washington, DC)  --  Congressman Chris Stewart believes it is possible to find a common ground that respects the rights of the LGBTQ community as well as religious freedom.  In an opinion column for the Deseret News yesterday, the Utah Republican said too many people are pitting members of each group against the other saying that only one side can win.

But Stewart says Utah is a great example of what can happen when both sides work together with lawmakers to create a balanced outcome.  He's sponsoring a bill that would take the Our UtahCompact nationwide, saying it would expand both religious freedom and LGBTQ civil rights.  Stewart urged Republicans to take the lead on the issue, saying it was time to quit wasting energy and money debating which group is more deserving of protection under the law.
