The aviation program at Southern Utah University has received a gift valued at close to $100,000. The gift comes from Syberjet, an aerospace manufacturer also based in Cedar City. The gift comes in the form of a fuselage.

A fuselage is the main body of an aircraft, and with this donation, students in the aviation program will be able to gain real world experience and understanding of aircraft inspection, fabrication and repair.

Syberjet is a peripheral branch of MSC Aerospace company which manufactures the fastest and longest-range light business jet in the world – the SJ-30. Due to the advanced material construction, Syberjet uses in their aircraft, this donation allows aviation students to receive real-world experience with the most in-demand materials and technology.

Jeff Kelly, laboratory manager in the SUU Aircraft Maintenance Technician Program said in a news release, “There are two big things happening in the world of aviation. The use of composites in aircraft manufacturing is growing exponentially and how aviation manufacturers are using this technology to change the game in the world of cabin pressurization and structural components. This donation allows our students to gain familiarity with old and new aircraft structures and materials.”

The partnership and this donation to SUU Aviation will give students an advantage entering the job market.
