The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is gearing up to host the 39th annual Youth Hunter Education Challenge in Logan next month, extending an invitation to all graduates of Hunter Education to join this thrilling event. Scheduled for June 14-15 at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range, the competition welcomes youth participants aged 6-18 as well as adults, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the challenge. Registration, which costs $35 per participant, must be completed on Eventbrite by May 30.

Since its inception by the National Rifle Association in 1985, the Youth Hunter Education Challenge has been a cornerstone for enhancing hunting, marksmanship, and safety skills among young hunters. Utah has been a dedicated participant from the start, contributing to a program that now spans 16 states across the U.S.

The competition features a diverse array of activities aimed at testing and honing the participants' abilities. Events include wildlife identification, .22 long rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, archery, and a safety trail that presents various scenarios to assess ethical and safety responses in hunting situations. Additionally, there is a written exam that evaluates knowledge of hunting rules and regulations as well as information taught in Hunter Education courses.
