Hard as it may be to believe, Easter weekend is less than a week away. How time flies. So what will we be filling our Easter baskets with here in the Beehive State?

According to a study by Innerbody, which analyzed Google Trends data to determine the most-searched Easter candies in each state, one treat stands above the rest nationwide: Peeps. The brightly colored marshmallow chicks and bunnies dominate search interest across the country, leading in 17 states and generating significantly more attention than any competitor.

Peeps Leads The Nation, But Not Utah

Utah, however, leans in a slightly different direction. Rather than following the Peeps-heavy trend seen across much of the Midwest and central United States, Utahns show a stronger preference for chocolate-centered treats, particularly Easter-themed peanut butter confections like Reese’s Eggs. This places Utah more in line with states that favor richer, chocolate-based options over novelty or marshmallow candies.

That distinction highlights a broader national divide. While Easter is traditionally associated with chocolate bunnies and eggs, the study found that non-chocolate candies—such as Swedish Fish and Jelly Belly jelly beans—still perform strongly in many regions. Even so, Utah’s preference suggests a more classic approach, favoring the familiar combination of chocolate and peanut butter over more whimsical options.

Perhaps most interesting is what the data says about Utah overall. The Beehive State consistently ranks among the top in the nation for candy enthusiasm, reinforcing its reputation as having a notable sweet tooth. Despite cultural stereotypes about lower alcohol consumption, Utahns appear to make up for it in the candy aisle, especially during holidays like Easter.

Meanwhile, some traditional Easter staples did not fare as well nationally. Cadbury Creme Eggs, long considered a seasonal favorite, ranked near the bottom in search popularity—an unexpected outcome given their iconic status.

It is worth noting that the study measures online search behavior rather than actual purchases, offering insight into curiosity and seasonal cravings rather than definitive buying habits. Still, the trends paint a clear picture: while much of the country debates the merits of marshmallow chicks, Utah is more likely reaching for a chocolate egg.
