Sour Candy Reigns Supreme In Utah’s Halloween Treats
It turns out Utahns aren’t just chasing chocolate — we’re chasing pucker, too. According to a DoorDash Halloween Ordering Trends report, SweeTARTS claimed the number one candy spot in Utah and a few other “Sour Power” states. While the rest of the country may bow to Reese’s or M&M’s, here in the Beehive State, we want our candy to make our eyebrows twitch.
SweeTARTS? Really? To be honest with you, I have to wonder out loud here if we really like tart sour candy here in Utah, or is it just less expensive?
Are We All Becoming A Little More Sour?
Now, don’t get me wrong — classics like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups still hold high prestige and dominate national rankings. But DoorDash also saw surges in sour and nostalgic favorites: Warheads spiked, Lemonheads leapt, and Sour Patch Kids cracked the top 10 for 2024 Halloween orders. Even retro “grandma candy” got resurrected, proving that what’s old is new — and sour — again.
So what does all this tell us about Utah’s candy psyche? We like our treats with a little sass. We don’t just want “sweet” — we want lip-tingle, teeth shock, the kind of sugar jolt that makes your tongue say, “Whoa, did I just brush my teeth with vinegar?” Our candy palate has range: we stoically hand out Snickers to trick-or-treaters, but at home our secret stashes are all sour circles and tangy triangles.
