(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  Utah lawmakers are hoping to move forward with the process of drawing new voting district maps in the next few weeks.  The state legislature's redistricting commission hopes to have the U.S. Census data it needs sometime next month, with a goal of beginning public hearings on new district boundaries in September.

Lawmakers must also wait for recommendations from the state's independent redistricting commission, though the legislature will have the final say on where the boundary lines will be drawn.  If things work out as planned, lawmakers could approve new congressional, state legislature and state school board maps by Thanksgiving.
