Utah Shakespeare Festival Conducting Annual Fall Food Drive
It's the final week and a half of the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, and not only is the festival inviting area residents to enjoy the productions, it is also giving community members an opportunity to lend a hand.
The 19th annual Fall Food Drive is underway now until the festival concludes the season on October 7th.
This year, the Utah Shakespeare Festival is working with the Iron County Care and Share with the hoping of making a significant impact by providing food to people in the area that have the greatest need.
Oh, and bonus, those who help out in the effort can score half price tickets to the show of their choosing.
Interested? Here's the details: Residents of Iron, Beaver, Garfield, Kane and Washington counties in Utah and from Lincoln County in Nevada can participate. Just donate 5 non-perishable food items to qualify for the half price discount.
To join in, bring food items and proof of residency in one of the eligible counties to the office of the Utah Shakespeare Festival. The office is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday's and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Seats may be reserved in advance, and tickets must be purchased in person as this offer is not available online.
This offer replaces the standard local discount for the remainder of the season.
The Iron County Care and share was formed in 1984 by local churches to address hunger issues in the area, and continues in that mission some 40 years later. This year, there is a heightened need for canned meat, peanut butter and beans. There is also need for pasta and rice.
Iron County has the second highest poverty rate in Utah, which is a contributing factor to many area residents facing food security issues.
Typically, over 3,500 pounds of food is collected during the Fall Food Drive and, of course, the desire this year is to meet and exceed that level of participation.
Timon of Athens, The Play That Goes Wrong, Coriolanus and Jane Austen's Emma The Musical are the productions you can still enjoy – and get a discount for – at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. So, by contributing a few cans of food you can lend a hand, and see superior entertainment from the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespeare Festival at a deep discount.
