It's the final week and a half of the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, and not only is the festival inviting area residents to enjoy the productions, it is also giving community members an opportunity to lend a hand.

The 19th annual Fall Food Drive is underway now until the festival concludes the season on October 7th.

The Iron County Care and share was formed in 1984 by local churches to address hunger issues in the area, and continues in that mission some 40 years later. This year, there is a heightened need for canned meat, peanut butter and beans. There is also need for pasta and rice.

Iron County has the second highest poverty rate in Utah, which is a contributing factor to many area residents facing food security issues.

Typically, over 3,500 pounds of food is collected during the Fall Food Drive and, of course, the desire this year is to meet and exceed that level of participation.
