The Salt Lake City School District Board is in support of putting a 730-million dollar bond on the ballot this fall. School officials say two high schools, West and Highland, "need to be rebuilt," and East High needs a field house. Opponents say the bond proposal could cost some homeowners in Salt Lake City hundreds of dollars a year. Voters will get a chance to decide in November.
Wildfire Burning Near Saratoga Springs 50 Percent Contained
Another wildfire is reported in Utah County near Saratoga Springs. Officials say it was discovered yesterday and is now called the "Clay Pit Fire." Crews say people should avoid Israel Canyon on Lake Mountain in Saratoga Springs, where the fire has burned at 140 acres. Original reports had the fire at 200 acres, but Utah Fire Info says those reports were before air support could properly gauge the boundaries of the fire.. Saratoga Springs city officials posted on social media that as of now no homes are threatened and no evacuations are underway. Firefighters have not released what caused the fire.
Copper Thieves Damage Power Substations In Utah County
The Utah County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to help find two men who stole thousands of dollars' worth of copper wires from at least two Rocky Mountain Power substations. The thefts happened this month in Vineyard and Springville, damaging the substations. Police have surveillance camera images of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact deputies.
