Utah! Who You Gonna Call?
This might sound like a bit of a pity party, but it is not my intention. I work most of the day alone. It's no secret that I enjoy the quiet and the solitude. A lot of my day is spent recording various audio productions, such as shows that will air at a later date, or clients wanting to record a commercial or two. And then I spend a portion of my day doing this....writing. It's quiet, and I usually have either the station or music playing in the background. (There comes a time when I have to turn of the prattle of the political discussion and let the music sooth me.)
Anyway, it's pretty quiet. I also don't find myself interrupted all that much by emails, texts, and especially not phone calls. My wife will text me occasionally to ask about something home related. I get work emails, but most of them are not meant specifically for me. And phone calls almost never, and again generally work related.
So, imagine my surprise when a friend of mine called me the other day and said, “I'm just calling to see how you are doing.” I was, well, stunned. We didn't talk about our work, didn't talk about the news of the day. No, he just wanted to know how I was. I was also curious how he was doing. That phone call really lifted my spirit.
A simple phone call can have a surprisingly powerful effect on someone's day. Human connection plays a vital role in emotional well-being, and hearing the voice of a caring friend can instantly lift someone’s mood.
My friend reminded me that when you call a friend, you remind them they are seen, valued, and not alone. That was certainly the effect his call had on me.
Even a short conversation offers a moment of laughter, empathy, or distraction that can shift a persons perspective and brighten their outlook. For someone who might be going through a rough patch, knowing that someone cared enough to reach out can mean the world.
My friend made my day brighter, and he reminded me that maybe I could do better at reaching out to people in my life and letting them know they matter to me.
These small gestures build stronger bonds and reinforce a sense of belonging. In our busy lives, taking a few minutes to check in with a friend can create meaningful moments—helping them feel better, and often improving your own day in the process.

So, who you gonna call, Utah?
