Utah’s Best Steakhouse Revealed
I'll admit it. When we go out to a sit down restaurant, ordering a steak is not my default order. But let's face facts. Steak is good. This is not an opinion. This is a fundamental truth of the universe, like gravity or the fact that socks disappear in the dryer. There’s just something about a perfectly cooked steak—whether grilled, pan-seared, or roasted—that makes life just a little bit better.
That's why I was curious in this article from Love Food which names the best Steakhouse in every state. In their selection, I was a little surprised because, while I know this establishment, and have had several meals there, it seems to me it was most known for something other than steak.
Before I let you in on what Love Food considers the best Steakhouse in Utah, which is up in northern Utah, let's consider some great places around our neck of the woods.
Sadly, one of the places where we would often go for steak is no longer in operation with the demise of the Sizzler location in Cedar City. Best steak I ever had? Not necessarily, but consistently good taste and not an unreasonable price.
I've written before about how much we enjoy going up to Rusty's Ranch House, and I have had a great steak there. There's just one thing that keeps me from ordering a steak at Rusty's, and that is their ribs. They are amazing, and as much as I like their steaks, the ribs call to me almost every time! Of course, the bonus here is that Tammy almost always has the steak and she shares with me, so I get the best of both worlds (and yes, I grudgingly share my ribs)!
In Washington County, there are a number of places to get a good steak, but the one that stands out to me is a little off the beaten path, but worth the trip. If you have not made the trip to Pine Valley to grab a steak at the Branding Iron, I think you are really missing out. Now the thing here is that they are only open on weekends and only during the season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Getting a reservation can be a little tricky, but last summer we happen to be driving by the area and took a chance to see if we could get in. As it happened they had some room and we had a great steak.
So if we are to take the advice of Love Food, where would we be going for that steak? We would be on the road to Perry, Utah to enjoy a meal at Maddox Ranch House. I used to live in that area, and we did eat there often. But in the circle I was in, the rave at Maddox was their chicken, which was really good. So I've never had a steak there.

Sounds like it's time for another road trip.
